Dhonna and Jesse “Bobby” Robinson Goodale III have made community
service their life’s work. Although their fundraising has been used in
programs around the world, most of their efforts are focused in the
Suffolk County New York area with a particular interest in Southampton
and Riverhead
The Goodales recently donated
one million dollars to the
Peconic Bay Medical Center. They also support the
Hotel Rwanda Rusesabagina
Foundation. The following are a few additional organizations that
have received funding: The
Ecumenical Missionaries in
Elizabeth, New Jersey, the 11th
Annual Riverhead Blues and Music Festival, the
2008 Good Earth Gala and were Chairpersons for the
International Black Film Festival
special screening of Pride,
starring Terrence Howard and the late Bernie Mac.
The Goodale’s newest endeavor is
very close and personal for Dhonna and Bobby:
The Tara L. Stevens Memorial
Scholarship Fund. Dhonna’s sister, Tara, at the age of twenty-five,
was a mother of two and just short of obtaining her nursing degree, when
her life was tragically ended by her husband.
Tara L. Stevens Memorial
Scholarships are given to individuals who, despite their circumstances,
have overcome the obstacles that life has presented them at such an
early age and for those who are ‘just deserving’. The Goodale’s message
is to educate young women and men that domestic-abuse is not a one-time
occurrence. It often leads to hospital visits, life-threatening injuries
and even death.
“An Affair to Remember” is their
annual summer event and fundraiser. They also host the Movers and
Shakers Holiday party, in January, to say thank you to everyone for
making ‘An Affair To Remember’ possible.
( And what a party it is! )
The Goodales are on the front
lines of social change for good by “being there” as well as opening up
their checkbook to help fund results. Dhonna says, “This is not all
about tax deductions; in fact a lot of the costs are not tax deductible.
“We believe when much is given, much is expected.
